prhubbard - December 10, 2014I have yet to find anything by Black Oak that I like. This is a ungood product in my opinion and typical of hastily bashed-out seasonal holiday beers that spin a fancy label into fast cash. Rough and coffee-strong this seems more a stout than anything and reminiscent of a red-eye Guinness for breakfast. Not a fan. Come on Black Oak. Brew up something thick, luscious and complex!!
bugs318 - December 9, 2011Nice thick creamy head, with a decent lace. Grainy, nutty aroma and nicely dry, but not entirely balanced. Sweetness of the malt is overshadowed by the bite of the hops. Not astringent per se but overly dry.. A bit like a slightly too bitter nut!
On 2nd take: great scotch oak nose. Nice porter taste with some vanilla oak. Fuller side of medium body
