jacobwilliams472 - May 4, 2012This beer may not adhere to your standard stout taste profile, that aside, this beer is nearly perfectly balanced between hop and malt character, very crisp and clean, and nearly perfect. If you have a beer newbie waiting to be initiated this is the beer to start them with. Awesome beer ,as always, from north coast.

cdos00 - February 11, 2012Had this beer on a nitro tap.
Nice, smooth, not too much alcohol flavor. Tasty

rj11611 - January 21, 2012Stout - Old No. 38 Stout, North Coast Brewing, Ft. Bragg, CA
Not as smooth and flavorful as most stouts - in fact the beer is short on the chocolate and coffee flavors and aromas. I would say a little hoppier than most good stouts. Smooth firm-bodied stout, toasted character & coffee notes.
Raised my rating by 1/2 star after subsequent tastings. I like this beer.

jnefinn - November 18, 2011A really good dark and coffee-like stout. Nothing over the top with complexity. But an excellent example of what a stout should strive to be like.
