A nice dark ale with a thick head. The flavor is malty, slightly smokey, with a hint of coffee. Very little bitterness and a very smooth finish.

Think I tried this one when we visited Kate in March 2015. Can't remember the taste.

One of my first favorites. Delicious chocolate and coffee flavors. Big plus for the name: Enlightened Black Ale. Makes me feel smarter.

A dark beer that tastes like a lighter ale

This beer was inspired by a book from 1554 containing a recipe for a Belgian-yeast black beer. Handsome dark brown and mahogany hue. Barely any head, no carbonation with medium mouthfeel. Both the aroma and taste are pretty diluted. I detect subtle toffee and nuts. Has a hint of chocolate and roasted malt flavor. Finishes clean and dry. Very light session beer that goes down easy. Definitely a low key everyday type of beer. Loosely translated that means it tastes like water.
